ILICA – Italian Language Inter-Cultural Alliance - augura alle comunita’ Italiane in America: Buon 150mo dell’unita’ d’Italia!
Dobbiamo comunque ammettere che, nonostante tutta la buona volonta’ di volerci credere, l’Italia di oggi appare ancora poco unita. Guai comunque a pensarlo perche’ la retorica impone di celebrare ovvero di festeggiare (che non sono poi la stessa cosa) continuando ad ignorare l’evidenza.
ILICA e’ una Fondazione Americana che rifugge per statuto dalla politica e la nostra matrice culturale ci impone di ricordare il 150mo compleanno dell’Italia dal momento che e’ impossibile ignorare il tam-tam mediatico che, tra una divisione che ha ormai raggiunto il limite di guardia, continua a richiamare gli Italiani, ovunque essi siano, all’unita’. Ed e’ giusto che sia cosi’. Il Conte Camillo Benso di Cavour volle fortemente “l’unita’ d’Italia” e la sua personalita’ storica, dopo 150 anni, sembra perpetuarsi nei “pochi” leaders che alla sua morte, presero in mano le sorti della nuova “Nazione” ovvero del nuovo “Stato”. Saremmo tentati di dire che la sua fama di “tessitore” sia ancora oggi emulata nel Parlamento Italiano con la differenza che i mezzi di comunicazione sono ormai molto piu’ sofisticati di quelli del 1860. In altre parole, oggi e’ molto piu’ facile informarsi sulle attivita’ dei politici di quanto non lo fosse 150 anni fa. Per questo ILICA invita tutti coloro che vogliono saperne di piu’ ad intervenire il 10 Novembre, 2011 alla Conferenza annuale, ILICA CE* (Cultural Event), dove Pino Aprile, autore del best seller “Terroni”, ci spieghera’ il suo punto di vista sull’Unita’ d’Italia. E con lui ci sara’ il grande scrittore/giornalista Piemontese, Lorenzo Del Boca, autore del libro “Polentoni”. ILICA sta traducendo “Terroni” perche’ oltre l’80% di quei 27 milioni di emigranti, possano avere un’altra opinione sulla ragione della diaspora che li ha portati fuori dall’Italia. La Presidente di Confindustria, Emma Marcegaglia, annuncia che “L’Italia e’ troppo divisa… e occorre mobilitarsi per riprendere la via della crescita”. Il Presidente delle Generali, Cesare Geronzi, si dimette dicendo che dietro di lui “…Ci sono solo giovani anziani…” In Italia infatti il potere si tiene fino ad 80 anni ed oltre, se possible. E’ normale che i successori siano tutti giovani sui sessanta… E i rappresentanti delle comunita’ di Italiani all’estero, non fanno eccezione: non si capisce bene chi li elegga ma sono piu’ o meno tutti nati nella prima meta’ del XX secolo. Mentre barconi carichi di Nord Africani arrivano in Italia, noi vediamo arrivare aerei carichi di giovani Italiani, laureati e poliglotti, in cerca di lavoro qui negli USA.
Un sondaggio promosso da un grande quotidiano Italiano dice che il 17% dei luoghi comuni che hanno accompagnato gli Italiani nella loro storia, classifica al primo posto lo stereotipo di “Italiani brava gente”. Seguito a ruota da “Mafiosi” e poi, “Pizza”, “Casanova”, “Mamma”, “Qualunquisti” e via su queste note. Eppure il mondo ci vuole bene perche’ continua a vederci come “Brava gente”. Il prof. Otto Kernberg, Director of the personality disorders institute at the Cornell University Medical College” ha stabilito, dopo 20 anni di ricerche, che il narcisismo patologico e’ incurabile. Insomma chi vuole restare in pole position anche quando non ha le possibilita’ evidente di competere, diventa pericoloso per se e per gli altri. Ebbene, nonostante tutto questo narcisismo politico, la cultura degli Italiani riesce ad emergere e continua a stupire il mondo. Gli imprenditori riescono ad aprire nuovi mercati, dal nord al sud dell’Italia, verso il nord e il sud del mondo. Lo fanno grazie a quella cultura che li unisce e li fa vivere come “Nazione” in uno “Stato”. E se l’Italia e’ stata “messa insieme” in maniera affrettata, siamo noi a dover lavorare oggi per la sua unita’. Incontriamoci mantenendo le nostre identita’ regionali senza rinuciare a sentirci Italiani. Siamo noi all’estero che possiamo dare veramente un grande contributo
all’unita’ che salvera’ l’identita’ futura dell’Italia. Con la nostra esperienza possiamo aiutare l’Italia ad entrare nel XXI secolo. E ci ringrazieranno anche gli Americani di origine Italiana che finalmente capiranno che solo le persone intelligenti possono arrivare, come hanno fatto loro, alle vette del “Corporate America”. ILICA vi aspetta il10 Novembre per iniziare lo studio della nostra storia, fuori dalle retoriche e Pino Aprile e Lorenzo Del Boca, ci aiuteranno a capire perche’, fino ad oggi, “Le due Germanie, pur divise da una diversa visione del futuro, dalla Guerra Fredda e da un muro, in vent’anni sono tornate una. Perche’ da noi non e’ successo?”

We have to admit that Italy today appears to be not as united as we would like to believe. Heaven forbid that we say so, however, because the rhetoric imposes us to celebrate or rather honor Italy (which after all are not the same thing) while continuing to ignore the evidence.ILICA is an American foundation that has no political affiliations as stated in its bylaws and whose cultural base demands that we remember the 150th Birthday of Italy. It is impossible to ignore the media frenzy which induces us to celebrate in spite of the dangerous level reached by the sense of division that separates the North and South, and which continues to recall Italians in the world to unity. And rightfully so. Count Camillo Benso of Cavour very much wanted “Italian Unity” however this famous character, after 150 years, seems to have been perpetuated in very “few” leaders, who took over after his death in the creation of the new “Nation”, or better yet new “State”. We are tempted to say that his fame as the “Mediator” of this new nation is still emulated today in the Italian Parliament with the difference that today’s means of communication are by now much more sophisticated than those of 1860. In other words, today it is easier to follow the actions of politicians better than 150 years ago.
For this reason ILICA invites all those who wish to continue to know more to participate to our annual Conference November 10, 2011 ILICA CE* (Cultural Event) where Pino Aprile, author of the best seller “Terroni” will explain, from his point of view, the Unity of Italy. And with Pino Aprile we will also host the great journalist/writer from Turin, Lorenzo Del Boca, author of the book “Polentoni”. ILICA is translating “Terroni” because more than 80% of those 27 million who immigrated, may have other opinions concerning the exodus that forced so many of them to leave their homeland. The President of Confindustria, Emma Marcegaglia, announced that “Italy is too divided…it is necessary to mobilize to restart the economic growth”. The President of Generali Insurance, Cesare Geronzi, resigned and in so doing stated that, after him “…..There are only young old people….” In Italy in fact those who are in power remain so until the age of 80, or more if possible. It makes sense then that Geronzi’s successors are all youngsters at the age of 60!! And the representatives of the Italian community abroad are no exception. One can’t understand who elects them , however the majority were born years before the middle of the twentieth century. While boatloads carrying thousands of North Africans are arriving on Italy’s shores, we here in the states are witness to planes landing daily with young Italian bilingual graduates, in search of work.
A survey promoted by an important Italian newspaper claims that 17% of stereotypes that have followed Italians in their cultural history has in first
place the stereotype of the “Italians are good people”, followed by “Mafiosi”, and then “Pizza”, “Casanova”, “Mamma”, “Qualunquisti”, and so forth. And yet the world still cares about us and continues to see us as “Good People”. Professor Otto Kernberg, Director of the Personality Disorders Institute at Cornell University Medical College, sustains after 20 years of research that pathological narcissism is incurable. In other words those who want to remain in pole position, even when they don’t have the evident possibility to compete, become dangerous for themselves and those around them. Inspite of all these narcissistic politics, Italian culture is still able to emerge and continues to amaze the rest of the world. Business people continue to open new markets, from the north and south of Italy, in places both north and south of the globe. They achieve this thanks to their culture that unites them and allows them to live as a “Nation” in a “State.” And if Italy was initially “united” in a hurried manner, it is up to us today to work to make this “Unity” a reality: to come together while maintaining our regional identity, and yet at the same time feeling to be Italian. We Italians living abroad are those who can really contribute to this unity in order to save the future identity of Italy. With our experience we can help Italy enter the 21st century. And we will also thank those Americans of Italian origin who finally will understand that only intelligent human beings can arrive at the top of Corporate America.
